Woman having microneedling treatment to her chin

Microneedling is an advanced aesthetic treatment ideal for skin rejuvenation, acne scarring and stretch marks. It creates micro punctures in the dermis to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for a healthier and smoother-looking complexion.

What does microneedling do?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure in which an electronic device is used to puncture tiny holes into the skins surface, at a depth of between 0.5 to 2 millimetres - depending on the area treated and thickness of the skin.

The holes which are made are known to be therapeutic, triggering the body’s wound healing response and stimulating collagen and elastin production. Once the punctures are in place, products can also be applied topically to the dermis during or after the procedure (such as hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C) which can penetrate deeper / more effectively.

Microneedling is suited to concerns such as acne scarring, age spots, sun damage, melasma and stretch marks and can also help to improve fine lines and wrinkles, as well as being used to reverse androgenetic alopecia. Treatments can be performed on all skin types and across the body, as well as the face.

For the best results, a course of 3 - 5 sessions is recommended, with a gap of 4 - 6 weeks in-between each treatment and a maintenance treatment every 6 - 9 months.

What does microneedling entail?

The entire process takes about 20 minutes, starting with the application of a topical numbing cream. Our microneedling device, the XCellaris PRO from Derma Roller, is then moved across the skin to create micro-punctures, which triggers the production of collagen deep down in the dermis.

The high speed of the handheld device increases the effectiveness of treatment and promotes visible results, providing smoother, brighter and healthier looking skin and minimising the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scarring.

What about at-home treatments?

Our automated aesthetic device is deemed much more effective than the dermal roller and less traumatic to the skin.

Instead of rapid / vertical needle insertions, the dermal rollers drags the skin to create a tearing wound, which causes more downtime and patients also report more pain than with our medically-certified in-clinic device.

Although at-home microneedling tools are available, they are not recommended, due to an increased risk of infection / scarring, as the needles are not sterile. The end results are also nowhere near as effective as those achieved when you visit a professional skincare clinic such as ours.
