Injectable anti-ageing treatments are a quick and convenient way to smooth out lines in the forehead, frown, mouth and eye area, without any need for surgery. There are other regions that can also be treated, which can be discussed at your pre procedure consultation.

How does it work?

When Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox®) is injected, it blocks signals from the nerve endings to the muscle, therefore reducing or stopping contraction. This temporary relaxation method means that the skin no longer creases, making wrinkles fade or disappear altogether.

Once Botox® is injected, it remains in the body for around 48 hours and during this time, trims the receptors of any muscles that have been injected. These receptors (which receive messages from the brain telling the muscle to move gradually) grow back over a period of several months and when relaxed, the skin has chance to heal and lines soften.

Performed by our medical experts, impacts are subtle and a natural improvement made. However results aren’t immediate and it usually takes 2 to 5 days until you start to notice the effect - which is at its best post 2 weeks. Movement usually starts to reappear after approximately 8 weeks and you can opt for a repeat treatment from week 12. A thorough pre procedure consultation will be carried out to ascertain your goals and the look you want to achieve.

A | When Botox® is injected into a muscle it activates a process called selective muscle denervation. This blocks the chemical signal telling the muscle to contract. Therefore, even though the nerve continues to send a signal which requests movement, the tissue does not receive the instruction and the muscle remains still. Over 3-4 months, the muscle gradually grows new receptors which can contract again. Botox® is most effective in the correction of lines which are formed from muscle contractions alone. Because the underlying muscle doesn’t move, the skin above it no longer creases. Botox® does not remove wrinkles which are permanently engraved in the skin, regardless of muscle movement, although it may soften them.
A | Botox® is most effective where lines are formed from muscle contractions alone. It stops the underlying muscle movement, so that the skin doesn't crease. Botox® therefore works very well in the upper face where wrinkles are deepened by smiling and frowning - e.g. frown and laughter lines. However, Botox® can also be used to treat forehead lines, vertical neck bands, grooves above the upper lip and gummy smiles.
A | Over 3-5 months, the muscle gradually grows new receptors and is able to contract again. This is the time when Botox® has essentially 'worn off' and treatment can be repeated.
A | Yes, you will meet one of our Aesthetic Nurse Prescribers first for a consultation. It isn’t possible to have the treatment on the same time as the consultation as it requires a prescription, which needs to be ordered from the pharmacy. This can usually be done within a couple of days.
A | The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
